On Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, what should have been a joyful day on the water turned into a nightmare when a boat explosion near Fort Lauderdale left all of us on board fighting for our lives.
As someone who was there that day, I am grateful to have walked away without severe injuries — but my heart is heavy for my cousins, Emily and Shantel, who are now facing a long and painful road to recovery.
Emily suffered second-and third-degree burns and is preparing for her first surgery on Friday, May 30. Her recovery will be long and challenging, requiring multiple procedures, rehabilitation, and long term care.
Shantel sustained second-degree burns and, while her injuries are less severe, she faces a difficult road ahead as well. Shantel is also a single mom to her 2-year-old little boy, adding even more weight to her recovery journey as she balances healing with caring for her little one.
We’re coming together to raise funds that will help lighten the financial burden, allowing Emily and Shantel to focus on healing side by side. Any donation, no matter the size, or even just sharing this page means so much and is deeply appreciated.
